This season has been filled with ups and downs, and so far the downs have outweighed the ups. From the massive amount of injuries to the death of Kelli McGregor, this season of high expectations has been limited due to lack of focus at times. After everything that has happened, the weather this week doesn’t seem so bad.
Over the course of this past week, three games have been postponed or cut short due to the weather, a team record for the Rockies. While it may seem like the lack of playing would hurt this team, nothing terrible can really come out of this. Getting everyone healthy is the main goal right now, and time off will help.
The Rockies this year have been one of the most ravaged teams by injuries. Nothing is going right. On top of the injuries, no one, except Brad Hawpe, is hitting well right now. Of the top six batting averages on the team, three belong to pitchers (Matt Belisle, Greg Smith and Aaron Cook). Only Hawpe, Tulo and CarGo are above .300. The days off due to weather can help the entire lineup try and get things going with extra work in the cage, and then extra at bats during game situations.
All things considered, I believe the Rocks will be OK. With Francis coming back tomorrow, most of the lineup actually healthy again, and the return of Huston Street imminent, this team will be OK. One thing that allowed this team to make a huge run last year was the fact that this entire team remained pretty healthy all year. I expect another big run coming soon, if not in May then early June. This team will be alright.
