Best Part of This Week? The Fans

By: Alex Patterson

This has been one of the most magical weeks in Rockies history.

Really, the series against the Cardinals might be the greatest regular season series this team has ever been a part of. A record nine runs in the 9th inning to win on Tuesday, overcoming a 5-0 deficit to win on another walk-off home run on Wednesday, only to be followed with Ubaldo becoming the first pitcher since 2000 to win 15 games before the All-Star Break.

Not only is all of that impressive, the best part of all of this is that the Rockies are now only three games behind the Padres for first place, doing most of this damage without Tulo and Todd Helton.

But I still haven’t gotten to the most impressive part: the fans.

A magical run can only be as good as the fans that support the magical run. The fans had a huge part in the run of 2007, and the never say die fans never said die last year, even when this team was 10 games under .500. Tuesday was a perfect example.

Trailing 9-2 going into the 7th inning, many fans, and rightly so, decided that it was time to find something better to do than sit around at Coors Field and watch the Rockies get blown out of the water. Those who stayed were greatly rewarded. All they got to see was baseball. No team in the modern era has ever scored nine runs in the bottom of the 9th to win a game, and that goes back to 1900.

Once the incredible rally was complete, the only thing left to do was celebrate. If anyone has a DVR and happened to record the post game show on FSN, or happened to see it live, the fans behind the broadcast booth showed why it is great to be a Rockies fan, and why baseball has finally re-arrived in Colorado.

All that is missing now is the rise to first place and a playoff birth. And getting Tulo back soon wouldn’t hurt either.

  1. Watched the game on TV and was suprised and proud to see the fans that stayed till after the game and celebrated one of the most improbible games you'll ever see. GO ROX!!!

  2. TULO come back PLEASEEEEEE!!!!!!!
